Clinical Research Studies

We have several research studies that are currently enrolling patients. If you are already a patient at Northwestern Medical Group and you are interested in participating, please ask your doctor during your clinic appointment. If you are not a Northwestern patient but are interested, there are several opportunities to participate in an ongoing clinical study for sinus and allergy research. Find out more at ClinicalTrials.gov

FOOD SUPPLEMENTS

Bruce Tan earns two R01 grants!

Dr. Whitney Stevens Awarded Parker B. Francis Grant

Northwestern Allergy and Sinus Center is very proud of Dr. Whitney Stevens who recently was granted the very coveted Parker B. Francis Fellowship in Pulmonary Research. The prestigious fellowship “is intended to support the development of outstanding investigators embarking on careers in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine.” Dr. Stevens’ research focuses on the study of Aspirin Exacerbated Respiratory Disease or Samter’s Triad.

Dr. Schleimer Wins the Tripartite Prize

Congratulations to our very own Dr. Robert P. Schleimer who was awarded the prestigious Tripartite Legacy Faculty Prize in Translational Science and Education. Dr. Schleimer received the honor on the 11th Annual Lewis Landsberg Research Day on April 2nd, 2015.

Sinus And Allergy Center Awarded NIH Program Grant

The Sinus and Allergy Center is honored to have received notice that it has been awarded a major NIH-supported program project grant to fund a collaborative effort between Northwestern University, The University of Chicago, the Geisinger Health System and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health to study the epidemiology, genetics and pathobiology of chronic rhinosinusitis. The collaborative group, collectively known as the Chronic Rhinosinusitis Integrative Studies Program (CRISP) is the only program project grant (P01) recipient in the United States studying this common but poorly understood disease. Program project grants are more complex in scope and budget than individual research grants. While individual research grants are awarded to support the work of one principal investigator who, with supporting staff, is addressing a scientific problem, program project grants are available to a group of several investigators with differing areas of expertise who wish to collaborate in research by pooling their talents and resources. These resources will fund continued studies examining the genetic, environmental, molecular and immunologic underpinnings of chronic rhinosinusitis in order to discover new means of treating this disease.

Dr. Bruce Tan has been awarded the 2012 Triological Society/American College of Surgeons Career Scientist Award Grant

This grant will supplement his investigations in the role of autoimmunity in Chronic Rhinosinusitis. The Triological Society is the most established society in the Otolaryngology specialty and promotes research into the causes of and treatments for diseases of the Ear, Nose and Throat.  The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational association of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice.

Dr. Bruce Tan has been awarded the 2011 Triological Society Career Development Award Grant

Dr. Tan is investigating the role of autoimmunity in Chronic Rhinosinusitis. The Triological Society is the most established society in the Otolaryngology specialty and promotes research into the causes of and treatments for diseases of the Ear, Nose and Throat

Dr. Bruce Tan has been awarded an NIH K23 Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award

This Award is aimed to study “The Role of B-cell mediated Olfactory Loss in Chronic Sinusitis with Nasal Polyps.”
